about

When Silence Rises from Earth” was recorded live in December 2020 at the Dub Museum in Kampala, Uganda.

The audio captures the soundscape of the Dub Museum, using concepts partly inspired by John Cage’s 4’33”, but with IR::Sankara Future Dub Resurgence’s own uniquely radical tools. They generate silence through the ritual preparation of a djembe drum and accompany it with spoken word elements in Arabic, Spanish, and English.

The audio of “When Silence Rises from Earth” is the soundtrack to a short, experimental film by Joshua Black-Alibet, which also documents a visual installation featured on the walls of the Dub Museum at the time of IR::Sankara Future Dub Resurgence’s live performance – an event best described as a ceremony for an anti-colonial future.

To watch the film and learn more about the activists, musicians, and movements featured in the visual installation, go to this special page on the Dubdem website dubdem.com.br/silence The information presented there will really enhance your understanding of the film and performance!
